Amb. Ekramy El Zaghat: Egypt is more cap...
02 Feb, 2025
Ekramy El Zaghat, President of the World Fund for Development and Planning and Special Advisor to the Economic and Social Fund at the United Nations, praised South Africa’s role, explaining that it represents the will of the free world, especially as the occupying state has continued its crimes against the Palestinian people.
In exclusive statements to Al-Bawaba News, El Zaghat affirmed that South Africa endured apartheid for many decades, with its people facing oppression and tyranny from the occupation, similar to what the Palestinian people are enduring today. He pointed out that South Africa is attempting to prevent what happened to its own people over decades—racial segregation and mass killings—which was evident in their legal action before the International Court of Justice.
The President of the World Fund for Development and Planning also addressed the Israeli claims that Egypt is blocking aid to the Palestinian side, calling it an attempt to evade accountability and shift responsibility onto another party. He clarified that Egypt receives all international aid and has organized international conferences at the Rafah border to affirm the Palestinian people’s right to receive humanitarian assistance. However, it became evident at that time that world leaders could not enter the crossing due to the occupying state’s measures preventing their entry. Therefore, all such allegations are baseless and should not be taken seriously.
He continued that Egypt’s position has been clear from the first day of Israeli assaults on the Palestinian people, as expressed by political leadership in all domestic and international forums, as well as through the popular demonstrations that have swept across Egypt. He emphasized that Egypt’s role cannot be denied, and no one will be allowed to exploit or accuse Egyptians unjustly. El Zaghat called on the international community to bear its responsibilities, as the war reaches its hundredth day, warning of regional instability and the devastation unfolding within Palestine, with the rising number of martyrs every day.
